UConn Sweeps Mount St. Mary's, 7-0

ORLANDO, FL (March 7) - With a clean sweep of all six singles matches and all three doubles matches, the University of Connecticut women’s tennis team defeated Mount St. Mary’s College by a score of 7-0 on Sunday.
All the singles matches were decided in straight sets, and freshman Ashley Petruzzi pulled off the two-set win without giving up a single game at the No. 5 spot. Junior Whitney Simcik at the No. 1 spot, and freshman Christi Lazar at the No. 6 spot, each gave up just one game in two sets.
Simcik and junior Barbara Schumsky nearly pulled off a shutout at the No. 1 doubles position, but dropped just one game to win by a score of 8-1.
The team will return to action on Tuesday, March 9 when they play James Madison University at 11:30 a.m. at a neutral site in Orlando, Fla.
