UConn Field Hockey Announces 2004 Schedule

STORRS, Conn. (June 17, 2004) — The University of Connecticut field hockey team will face five teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year as part of its 2004 schedule which was released today.
The Huskies will face NCAA qualifiers American (Aug. 29), Penn State (Sept. 4), Princeton (Sept. 12), Boston College (Oct. 6) and Northeastern (Oct. 13).
Connecticut will get the preseason started on Saturday, Aug. 21 with the Blue-White Game at the George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex beginning at 12:00 p.m. (ET). The Huskies will follow with a pair of home exhibition contests on August 22 vs. TBA and August 25 vs. the University of Calgary.
UConn opens the regular season with a six-game homestand beginning on Saturday, August 28 when it hosts Sacred Heart beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Sherman-Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies follow with clashes against American (Sept. 29), Penn State (Sept. 4), Quinnipiac (Sept. 8), Vermont (Sept. 10) and Princeton (Sept. 12) to close out the season-opening home stretch.
A three-game road trip follows which includes the BIG EAST Conference opener at Villanova (Sept. 19) and meeting at Harvard (Sept. 22) and Massachusetts (Sept. 25).
The Huskies will host Rutgers in their BIG EAST Conference home opener on Oct. 16. Syracuse will be the only other BIG EAST opponent to pay a visit to the Sherman Family Sports Complex on Oct. 22.
The 2004 BIG EAST Tournament will be played on the campus of Rutgers University on November 5-7.
The first and second rounds of the 2004 NCAA Tournament will be played on November 13-14 on campus sites to be determined.
The 2004 NCAA Championship (national semifinals and championship) will take place on November 19-21 at a site to be determined.
Connecticut boasts a combined mark of 231-86-19 (.716) all-time against opponents on its 2004 schedule.
The Huskies return seven starters from last season’s squad that finished 17-6 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2003 NCAA Tournament.
