Huskies Open 2004 Season at Volkl Shootout

HANOVER, N.H. (Sept. 19) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team opened its 2004 fall schedule by participating in the Volkl Shootout hosted by Dartmouth College Sept. 17-19.
The Huskies were led by Jen LoRusso in singles play as she won all three of her matches. LoRusso battled Laura Ahmes of Boston University (5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-6) and also had a hard fight against Dartmouth's Sara McNally (7-6, 4-6, 11-9). She then took care of Jackie Couture of Colgate to complete the event 3-0.
Also playing well for UConn was Christine Burek who won two of three matches. Burek topped BU's Monica Shepherd, 7-5, 6-4, before falling to Kerry Snow of Dartmouth by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Burek then came back to defeat Becca Smalley of Colgate (6-1, 6-1).
In doubles action, the duo of Liz Dibbs and Barbara Schmunsky combined to win two doubles matches. After losing to O'Rourke and Snow of Dartmouth 8-4 to open doubles play, the pair came together to defeat Colgate's Maldow/Couture, 8-4, and Katims/Charest of BU, 8-5.
