Union College Downs Mens Hockey, 4-0

STORRS, Conn. (Jan. 2) – The University of Connecticut men’s hockey team suffered a 4-0 shutout loss to Union College on Sunday afternoon at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. UConn falls to 3-13-2 overall while Union improves to 9-9-1 for the year.
The Dutchmen jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 3:12 mark of the opening period when Scott Seney fired a point-blank shot past UConn sophomore goaltender Scott Tomes (Windham, N.H.) off a feed from Jonathan Poirier and Olivier Bouchard.
Poirier then pushed Union’s lead to 2-0, 17:45 into the second, with a power play tally from Michael Beynon and Joel Beal.
Scott Brady notched a third goal for the Dutchmen, as he scored on a shorthanded breakaway from Beynon and Chris DiStefano 3:42 into the third period. Beal rounded out the scoring with a goal at 19:16 in the third, with assists going to Jordan Webb and Casey Ftorek.
Tomes made 37 saves for Connecticut, while Kris Mayotte posted 26 stops in net for Union. The Dutchmen outshot the Huskies, 41-26.
UConn returns to action on Friday, January 7, when the team travels to West Point, N.Y. to take on Atlantic Hockey foe Army at 7:00 p.m.
