Huskies Defeat Merrimack, 2-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 22, 2005) - After falling in the first game of the series, 3-1, the University of Connecticut men's hockey team came back on Saturday night to record its first win of the 2005-2006 season, 2-1, against Merrimack College. Freshman Chris Myhro (Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored his third goal in three games in the first period to set the Huskies off and running.
Bryan Schmidt scored the first and only goal for the Warriors at the 7:40 mark of the first stanza on a power play advantage. Scott Drewicki and Rob Ricci added assists on the play that gave Merrimack the 1-0 lead.
Myhro, with help from Scott McDougall (Mansfield, Mass.) and Eric Dahlberg (Duluth, Minn.), scored the Huskies first goal at 16:46 of the first stanza. The freshman recorded his third point of the season by flipping a backhand shot over the glove of freshman goaltender Patrick Watson for his third goal of the season to even the score, 1-1.
The score would remain even until midway through the second periodwhen junior Eric St. Arnauld (Marquette, Mich.) tallied his first goal of the season, unassisted, to take the lead and capture the win.
Freshman Jon Anderson (Vadnais Heights, Minn) started his first game in goal for the Huskies, recording a total of 36 in the game and allowing only one goal.. The Warriors out-shot the Huskies 37-33 in the game.
Connecticut will be back in action again on Oct. 28 against Mercyhurst on the Lakers' home ice.
