Fuller Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

STORRS, Conn. (Nov. 10) -- University of Connecticut junior defensive tackle Rhema Fuller was named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District I Football Team on Thursday in a vote of the region’s collegiate media relations personnel. By earning district honors, Fuller will be included on the national Academic All-America ballot. The results of the national voting will be announced on December 1.
Fuller is the second Husky in the Division I-A era to be so honored, joining wide receiver Shaun Feldeisen who earned the honor in 2003. Feldeisen went on to earn second team Academic All-America accolades that season.
Starting all eight games this year, Fuller is second amongst UConn defensive linemen with his 27 tackles so far this season. He also has 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack and has forced a fumble. Meanwhile, he maintains a 3.56 cumulative GPA as a finance major. Fuller turned in perhaps his best effort of the year last Wednesday night at No. 16 West Virginia when he recorded a pair of career-highs with nine tackles and 3.5 TFLs, in UConn’s nationally-televised tilt with the BIG EAST-leading Mountaineers. His nine stops were the most by a UConn defensive lineman since Oct. 25, 2003 when Tyler King had 14 tackles and Uyi Osunde 13 against Akron.
The District I team was compiled from all Division I-A and I-AA teams in New England and New York. Fuller is joined on the All-District team by Aaron Sanders of Buffalo, Matt Grande of Marist College and Seth Lotts of Army. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve on his team, at least a sophomore academically, and maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA.
