Former Husky Hockey Standout Makes AHL Debut

LOWELL, Mass. (November 17, 2005) - Former University of Connecticut men's hockey standout, Eric Nelson, made his American Hockey League debut on Wednesday evening, starting for the Lowell Lock Monsters. With Nelson on the ice, the Lock Monsters went on to defeat the Albany River Rats, 4-1. In the game, Nelson recorded a penalty.
Nelson played for Connecticut from 2001 to 2004. He served as team captain for the 2003-04 season and was named first team All-conference. Under his leadership, the Huskies advanced to the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals. In his career as a Husky, Nelson played in 136 games, third most in the UConn record book. He scored 21 goals and made 40 assists for a total of 61 points. In his first season he was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as being named to the All-Rookie team.
