STORRS, Conn. (December 12, 2005) - Bruce Marshall, the head coach of the University of Connecticut men's hockey team, notched his 250th career win on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, in a 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart on the Pioneers' home ice.
Marshall has been the head coach of the Huskies since the 1988-89 season. In his 17 years at the helm of the program, Marshall has led the Huskies to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, the semifinals of the MAAC Championship twice, three MAAC quarterfinal games, one Atlantic Hockey quarterfinal game, eight ECAC East tournament berths, four ECAC semifinals and one ECAC championship appearance. He has also produced seven All-Americans, 14 all-conference members, and a MAAC Defensive Rookie of the Year (since the MAAC formed in 1998-99). In addition, their first ever conference Player of the Year came in the 2003-04 season as Tim Olsen received the Atlantic Hockey honor.
For his accomplishments as Connecticut hockey's winningest coach, Marshall has been recognized by his peers in earning several honors. He won the Edward Jeremiah College Division National Coach of the Year Award and was named the ECAC Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 1991-92 season. In February of 1993, Marshall was named to the East squad coaching staff for the 1993 Shrine East-West College Hockey Classic. The staff consisted of one coach from Division I, II and III schools. It was the first honor of its kind to be bestowed upon a Connecticut hockey coach.
With a series sweep of Sacred Heart this past weekend, Marshall's career record currently stands at 251-228-49.
