PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 14, 2005) - University of Connecticut sophomore Rich Sirois (Ipswich, Mass.) has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday. This is the first weekly honor for a Husky this season and the first for Sirois in his career.
Sirois started two games for the Huskies last week, throwing 7.0 innings against Holy Cross on March 7 and 7.1 innings vs. Tennessee-Martin on March 13. The southpaw notched his first win of the season against the Crusaders, allowing just one earned run, three total, while striking out five. He then fanned six UTM batters, limiting the team to three hits while starting in UConn's 3-0 shutout victory. In his three starts this season, he has pitched a team-high 20.1 innings while registering a 0.44 ERA.
Connecticut looks to continue its six-game win streak when the Huskies play at Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. They then travel to Shreveport, La., to face Centenary College in a three-game series March 19-20. The two teams play in a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. (CST), and a single game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
