Men's Golf Finishes 12th at Navy Spring Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 17, 2005) - Freshman Brian Travalja tied for seventh overall to lead the University of Connecticut men's golf team to a 12th place finish at the Navy Spring Invitational at the par-71 U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Md. UConn posted a two round total of 616 to place 12th out of 20 teams. Guilford College of Greensboro, N.C. won the event with its 594.
The event was a critical one for the Huskies who are on the bubble to qualify for the 2005 BIG EAST Championship, next weekend at Notre Dame. UConn was one of four BIG EAST teams at Navy and finished third amongst them, beating Seton Hall, but placing behind Boston College and Villanova. Travalja was the top finisher amongst all BIG EAST golfers with his 149, including a second round 72.
A.J. Siekierski shot a 153 to tie for 30th overall. Clint Hyland made a charge on Sunday to tie for 51st overall with a 156 while Justin Ciombor tied for 69th with a 159 and Mike Murphy pulled in with a 162 to tie for 79th overall.
UConn will return to action next weekend at either the BIG EAST or New England Championship.
