Huskies Fall to Hofstra, 2-0

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (April 19) – The University of Connecticut softball team fell to Hofstra University, 2-0, at the Hofstra University Softball Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, UConn’s overall record slides to 14-23 while the Pride moves to 28-12-1 on the year.
Hofstra took a 1-0 lead in the second as Ashley Lane began the inning with a bunt single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Hailey Clark and then scored on a two-out single by Lisa Torres.
The Pride added an insurance run with two outs in the fourth as three-consecutive singles by Stefanie Kenney, Torres and Pam Dreslinski plated Hofstra’s second run.
For the Huskies, senior Jen D’Angelo (Wyomissing, Pa.) and freshman Allie Gendron (Noblesville, Ind.) each tallied two hits in the contest as D’Angelo went 2-for-2 at the plate and Gendron was 2-for-3.
Callie Osborne picked up the win (17-5) for the Pride, tossing a complete-game four-hit shutout with no walks and two strikeouts. Senior Jessica Gurney (Williamstown, Mass.) took the loss (9-14) for UConn as she pitched six innings and allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
The Huskies next travel to Providence, R.I., on Thursday, April 21, to take on Brown University in a single game at 4:00 p.m.
