Women's Tennis Edged by Georgetown, 4-3

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (April 2, 2005) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team was edged 4-3 by Georgetown Saturday afternoon at the Bloomfield Racquet Club. The loss moves the Huskies to 2-10 this spring, and 0-5 against BIG EAST opponents.
UConn and Georgetown each won three singles matches, but the Hoyas took the victory when they won two of the three doubles matches for the point.
The Huskies won the No. 2-4 singles matches. Senior Jen LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) defeated Liddy Bartell at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. Fellow senior Barbara Schumsky (West Hartford, Conn.) then topped Adriann Gin, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3, while sophomore Christine Burek (Wheaton, Ill.) won 6-3, 6-3 over Kristen Dew. Sophomore Ashley Petruzzi (Bradenton, Fla.) forced Eileen Boyle to a third set at No. 6, but fell 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
Schumsky and senior Whitney Simcik (Reading, Pa.) combined to defeat Bartell and Gin, 8-5, for the lone UConn doubles win.
