Women's Cross Country Places Second at Ted Owens Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's cross country team finished second in the Ted Owens Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies were led by junior Jillian Sullivan (Bristol, Conn.) and senior Niamh Cunningham (Branford, Conn.), who took second and fourth place consecutively.
Sullivan ran a time of 18:21 for the Huskies. She was closely followed by Cunningham, who had a time of 18:30.
"We're pleased with the efforts of our team leaders," said head coach Bill Morgan. "They showed great fitness and tenacity in their race today."
Finishing first in the invitational was New Hampshire with 28 points, followed by UConn with 50, Rhode Island with 58 points, CCSU with 103 and Fairfield finished in 5th place with 147 points.
"We made some tactical errors that we will improve on going into our next race," Morgan said, "but we're looking forward to the next level of competition.
The women's cross country team will be in action again in the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 24.
