WALTHAM, Mass. (January 7, 2006) - Four goals in the final five minutes gave Bentley a series sweep of the University of Connecticut men's hockey on Saturday night. The 4-1 loss on Saturday was similar to the loss the team suffered on Friday night with the Huskies once again, scoring first, maintaining the lead for a time, then losing the stamina to compete. This loss drops Connecticut's record to 7-10-1 overall and 6-8-0 in Atlantic Hockey play while the Falcons improve to 8-8-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the AHA.
Junior Brian Burns (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the game for the Huskies at the 16:25 mark of the first period off assists from juniors J.R. Corkery (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Eric St. Arnauld (Marquette, Mich.). The 1-0 advantage was maintained by Husky freshman goalie Jon Anderson (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) who made a total 27 saves in the game
The Falcons began their third period domination at the 15:16 mark when Jeff Gumaer, picked up the rebounded shot taken by Dain Prewitt and snuck it past Anderson to tie the score at one. Less than a minute later, Bentley captured the lead and the win on another loose puck goal scored by Marc Zwicky.
The rally continued for the Falcons as Anthony Canzoneri broke in on Anderson and pulled the puck past the goaltender before sliding it to his backhand and finding the back of the net. The Huskies pulled Anderson with just over a minute remaining in the game in an attempt to advance on the Falcons' defense, but Casey Russell scored on the open net with 18 seconds remaining to cap the scoring.
The Huskies are back in action again on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Brown. The non-conference game is set for a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
