Men's Tennis Finish Play at Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. (October 15, 2006) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team closed out play at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Sunday, October 15, in Hamden, Conn.
In the finals of flight C singles, junior Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) won the first set against Fairleigh Dickinson's Esteban Blanco 7-6(5) before dropping the second in a close 6-7(5) and then lost the tiebreaker 5-10. Freshman Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) fell in finals of flight D 6-4, 6-2 to Charlie Feldman of Quinnipiac.
In the consolations, sophomore Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) was an 8-2 winner over Andrew Costin from Rhode Island in flight A, while sophomore Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) defeated Kevin Guidicipietro of Sacred Heart 8-2 in the same flight.
Junior Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) and Carvalho lost an 8-5 match in the semifinals of flight A doubles to Ira Reibeisen and Ben Young from Bucknell. Senior Joel Gamoran (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Michaels fell in the semifinals of flight B to Bucknell's Zach Hascoe and Ben Bednarek 8-6.
The Huskies will wrap up fall competition at the Regional Championships Oct. 20-22, at Penn.
