Mens Golf Finishes Fourth At NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 24, 2006) — Of a total of 43 teams competing, the University of Connecticut men’s golf team earned a fourth place finish Tuesday afternoon at the 72nd annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship.
The University of Rhode Island won the tournament with a two-day score of 588. Sacred Heart turned in a second place showing with a score of 603 while Central Connecticut took home third place following its score of 604. After UConn nabbed fourth place with a two-day score of 609, Harvard rounded out the top five finishers with a score of 611.
Rhode Island’s Ben Spitz was the medalist with a score of 1-under par 143 over the 36-hole tournament.
UConn Senior Jason Parajeckas (Woburn, Mass.) was the Huskies’ top finisher after laying claim to fourth place overall with a two-day score of 145, 1-over par. His fourth place finish marks the sixth consecutive tournament of the season in which he has placed amongst the top-10.
Junior Brian Travalja (Oradell, N.J.) turned in a second place showing on the team and tied for eighth overall after shooting rounds of 72 and 77 to finish the event with a two-day score of 149. Junior A.J. Siekierski (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) was next on the Huskies after finishing his afternoon tied for 18th. Siekierski fired rounds of 75 and 77 to complete the event with a score of 152.
Sophomore L.J. Tosches (Grafton, Mass.) was UConn’s fourth place finisher while placing tied for 117th overall with a score of 165 after rounds of 80 and 85. Also taking 117th place, junior Ryan Dandeneau (Chepachet, R.I.) shot rounds of 82 and 83 to complete the tournament with an identical score of 165.
UConn returns to the course Nov. 3-5 when the Huskies travel to Winter Garden, Fla., to take part in the BIG EAST/MAC Challenge.
