Men's Tennis Wraps Up Singles Play at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. (October 7, 2006) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team wrapped up singles play at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, October 6, in Lewisburg, Pa.
In flight five, junior Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) was a 4-6, 6-1 (10-7) winner over Quinnipiac's Tom Curran. He then fell to Fernando Ferreira of UMBC 2-6, 2-6.
Freshman Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) lost to Nick Savage from UMBC 2-6, 1-6 before coming back to take an exciting 3-6, 7-5(5) (10-7) match from Quinnipiac's Goldy Sherrill.
Junior Aaron Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) lost to Sid Makkar from Bucknell in a close 4-6, 6-1 (9-11) match before getting a win over John Hughes of Quinnipiac 4-6, 6-4 (10-5).
Freshman Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) won in flight eight over Quinnipiac's Joe Nuara 4-6, 7-6 (10-8). He then dropped a 2-6, 6-4 (7-10) match to Ben Rosenstock from Bucknell.
In flight one, sophomore Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) lost to Andrew Chan of Quinnipiac 5-7, 0-6 and Ira Reibeisen from Bucknell 2-6, 0-6. Sophomore Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) fell in flight two to Stephano Salvatore of Quinnipiac 1-6, 3-6, before dropping a 4-6, 4-6 match to UMBC's Dave Jackson. He lost the final match against Ira Reibeisen of Bucknell 2-6, 0-6.
Junior Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) fell to Bucknell's Zach Hascoe 0-6, 5-7 before dropping an 0-6, 0-6 match to Chris Meyer of UMBC in flight four. Sophomore Jeff Klar (Marietta, Ga.) was defeated in flight seven by UMBC's Mehrban Iranshad 1-6, 1-6 and then fell to Ben Young from Bucknell 0-6, 3-6.
In doubles, Schueler/Goldstein lost to Shamasdin/Jackson from UMBC 4-8, while in flight two Malerba/Michaels were defeated by Quinnipiac's Chan/Curran 6-8. Senior Joel Gamoran (Mercer Island, Wash.)/Carvalho dropped a 1-8 match to Bucknell's Hasco/Bednarek while senior Craig Helstowski (Shrewsbury, Mass.)/Klar fell to Nuara/Corvari of Quinnipiac 4-8.
The Huskies will wrap up play with the final two rounds of doubles on Sunday.
