STORRS/EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 1) -- The University of Connecticut women's tennis team claimed wins at the lower three singles spots, but the doubles point provided decisive in a 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon. The match began at the UConn Tennis Courts in Storrs but, due to rain, had to be moved early in singles play half an hour east to the East Hartford Racquet Club. UConn dips to 4-10 this spring while the Panthers are now 11-4.
UConn claimed the middle doubles match as Elizabeth Dibbs and Jessica Porter battled through a tiebreaker in a 9-8 win over Carlie Smith and Emily Hughes. The Panthers won the top and bottom matches though to claim a point that would ultimately prove decisive. In singles, an even 3-3 split was marked by lineup positions as the Panthers took the top three matches and the Huskies the bottom three. BreAnn Cheung was a 6-2, 6-3 winner for UConn at No. 4, Alison Koch won 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 at No. 5 while Ashley Petruzzi claimed a 7-6, 3-6, 10-6 win at No. 6.
The Huskies return to action on Tuesday when they play host to Holy Cross at 3:15 p.m.
