Women's Tennis Powers Past Providence, 7-0

STORRS, Conn. (April 11) -- The University of Connecticut women's tennis team won all nine matches in a 7-0 win over Providence College on Tuesday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts. The win, crucial in UConn's pursuit of a BIG EAST Championship bid, ups the team's record to 6-12 on the spring season. The Friars fall to 5-11 with the loss.
UConn swept the three doubles matches to open the day's action with a pair of easy wins at the lower two positions and an 8-5 victory on the top line for Christine Burek and BreAnn Cheung. Singles play saw UConn win all six matches in straight sets. Playing at No. 3, Jessica Porter won by a 6-0, 6-0 score for the second consecutive day as she topped Erin Kenaga a day after blanking Katie Guarino of Holy Cross. She has now won 24 consecutive games for the Huskies. Cheung and Ashley Petruzzi each lost just one game in their singles wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Rutgers at 2:00 p.m.
