Golf Ties For Ninth At New England Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 15, 2006) - The University of Connecticut golf team finished in a tie for ninth place at the New England Division I Golf Championship, held at Triggs Memorial Golf Course, with a team score of 607 (313-294) for the weekend. The Huskies had been in 13th place following the first day of competition.
Leading the way for the Huskies was junior Jason Parajeckas (Woburn, Mass.), who finished in a tie for 11th with a two-day total of 147 (73-74). He was followed by sophomore Brian Travalja (Oradell, N.J.) who tied for 29th with a 152 (78-74) for the tournament. Sophomore A.J. Siekierski (North Grovenordale, Conn.) shot a 155 (81-74) for the tournament, good for a tie for 43rd place. Freshman L.J. Tosches (Grafton, Mass.) tied for 53rd in the field with a total of 157 (85-72) while senior Michael Hornung (Hartland, Wisc.) wrapped up the tournament in 75th place after shooting a 166 (81-85).
Binghamton University captured the tournament with a two-day total of 580 (288-292). Ben Spitz of the University of Rhode Island won the individual crown on the second playoff hole. He shot a 141 (72-69) for the tournament.
The Huskies will wrap up the spring season next weekend when they travel to Dade City, Fla. for the BIG EAST Championship. The tournament will be contested on April 23-25.
