Men's Golf Finishes Eighth At Hawks Invitational

BOLTON, Mass. (September 9, 2006) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team captured eighth place at the 2006 Hawks Invitational Saturday afternoon at the International Golf Course.
Campbell University (856), which led the field of 10 teams after the first two rounds, held on to post a four-shot victory over the University of San Francisco (860). Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University (875), Texas Pan American (876) and Hartford (886) rounded out the top five teams.
Cambell’s Kyle Spahr, who began the day with an eight-stroke lead, wrapped up medalist honors by shooting a two-under par round of 70 to finish at 201 (-15) for the tournament. UTPA’s Armen Kivakossian finished as runner-up at 210 (-6) after carding a 71 in his final round. Spahr dominated the par 5 holes (4.27, -11) and led the field in eagles (3) for the tournament, including a double-eagle in the first round, while Kivakossian ranked second (2) in the category and led the field in pars (38).
Senior Jason Parajeckas (Woburn, Mass.) shot the low round of the day for the Huskies, posting a 70 (-2) to finish sixth overall at 215 (-1). Not far behind, junior A.J. Sierskierski (North Grovenordale, Conn.) tied for 37th place overall after firing a two-day total of 231 (79-78-74).
Daniel White (Westford, Mass.) ended his day in 45th place after shooting 235 (86, 76, 73). Finishing one spot behind, L.J. Tosches (Grafton, Mass.) earned 46th place with a 236 (75, 78, 83) showing. Rounding out the Huskies’ participation in the event was Brian Travalja (Oradell N.J.). Travalja’s finished the invitational in 47th place after rounds of 76, 81, 80, giving him a final tally of 237.
UConn returns to the course Sept. 15-16 when the Huskies travel to Piscataway, N.J. to take part in the Rutgers Invitational.
