Women's Tennis Solid At First Day of Army Invite

WEST POINT, N.Y. (September 15, 2006) - Multiple players from the University of Connecticut women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals on day one of the Army Invite on Friday, Sept. 15 in West Point, N.Y.
In the second singles flight, junior Jess Porter (Duluth, Ga.) defeated Laura Marin of Howard in the first round (6-3, 6-4) before taking down Seton Hall's Danielle Viola, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.
In flight three, freshman Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.), seeded number three, received a first round bye and then proceeded to win a 6-2, 6-2 match over Erica Federgreen of Stonybrook. LoRusso will now take on Annie Davies of Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) also had a bye in the first round and then defeated Seton Hall's Liza Chu, 6-1, 6-1. Cheung now looks to a quarterfinal match-up with fourth-seeded Paige Ford of Army.
In flight one, senior Christine Burek (Wheaton, Ill.) had a first round bye before falling to No.2 Monica Lyskawa of West Virginia in a hard fought 7-6(3), 6-2 match.
In doubles action, the duo of Ali Campiteiello (New York, N.Y.) and Liz Dibbs (Allentown, Pa.) defeated Rodriquez/Rosenberger of Quinnipiac, 8-5. In flight two doubles, Alison Koch (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) and Ashley Petruzzi (Bradenton, Fla.) cruised past Howard's Blancada/Dorsey, 8-2.
UConn will return to action tomorrow as they continue play in the Army Invite.
