Field Hockey to Face Yale Wednesday Night

HUSKIES CONTINUE HOMESTAND VS. YALE: No. 8 Connecticut will continue its six-game homestand to open its season with a clash against in-state foe Yale on Wednesday night at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
The game will mark the fifth of the six-game homestand which the Huskies will wrap up on Saturday, Sept. 9 vs. Sacred Heart beginning at 12:00 p.m. (ET).
HUSKIES VS. YALE ALL-TIME: UConn leads the all-time series with 23-0 although three of those wins - all within the last seven meetings - were by a 1-0 score.
One of those games came last season when UConn’s Barbie Steffen's goal one minute before intermission rounded out the game’s scoring.
YALE TIES: Yale assistant coach Abby Ostruzka was a former All-America and BIG EAST East Defensive Player during her collegiate playing days at UConn.
Ostruzka played for the Huskies from 2001-04 and was a member three straight BIG EAST Regular Season Championship teams.
She finished her career with 22 assists - 14th-most in UConn career annals.
HUSKIES MOVE TO NO. 8 IN NFHCA POLL: Connecticut moved to No. 8 nationally in the most recently poll released by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), which was announced Tuesday, Sept. 6.
UConn moved up two spots following its 1-1 record last week, which included a 1-0 win at then-No. 8 Michigan and a 1-0 loss vs. No. 7 Penn State.
The Huskies received 307 points and are one of two BIG EAST teams in the rankings with Louisville checking in at No. 10.
LAST TIME OUT: The No. 9 University of Connecticut field hockey team dropped its first game of the season 1-0 vs. No. 7 Penn State last Sunday at a rainy George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The loss snaps the Huskies three-game winning streak to open the season and moves their overall record to 3-1. The Nittany Lions improve to 3-2 following the one-goal victory.
Penn State scored the game's only goal off a penalty corner at 19:09 on a blast by Mallory Weisen, which was assisted by Jen Long and Allison Scola.
UConn came up on the short end despite tying Penn State in shots (7-7) and penalty corners (6-6).
Penn State goalkeeper Jen Beaumont made four saves en route to the shutout, while Connecticut goalie Andrea Mainiero turned away five shots while allowing the lone goal.
