WAKEFIELD, Mass. (January 2, 2007) — University of Connecticut men’s hockey freshman goaltender Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) has been named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Erickson posted a 1-1-0 overall record last week in helping guide the Huskies to a second place finish in the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic. Erickson opened the weekend by allowing just one goal in a crucial 2-1 win over Holy Cross to pick up his first career win in a Husky uniform. He tallied 28 saves and held the Crusaders scoreless for the first 50:30 minutes of the game.
In the following game, Erickson notched a career-high 33 saves in a 3-1 loss to Colgate in the championship game of the classic. Despite the loss, Erickson lowered his goals against average more than five points over the two-game stretch. He now owns a 4.68 goals against average in five games played.
Erickson and the Huskies return to the ice Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. with a trip to Springfield, Mass., to take on American International.
