Golf Leads NEIGA Championship After Day One

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 22, 2007)-- Senior Brian Travalja (Oradell, N.J.) shot an even-par 72 Monday to lead the University of Connecticut to a first place standing after the first day of competition at the 73rd annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at Port Captains/Starboard Golf Course.
The Huskies shot a team total of 12-over par 300 on the day and hold a two-shot advantage over the University of Rhode Island. Tufts University, Nichols College and Salem State College round out the top five teams after one day of the two-day, 42-team tournament. Brian Cawley of Salem State shot a 70 to hold the individual lead.
Junior L.J. Tosches (Grafton, Mass.) and senior A.J. Siekierski (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) each shot a 75 on the afternoon, while Husky freshmen Chris DeLucia (Norwich, Conn.) and Matt Dubrowski (Bergenfield, N.Y.) shot 78 and 79, respectively, to round out the Husky scorers.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with a 9:15 a.m. tee time.
