Men's Hockey Drops 4-1 Decision to Holy Cross

STORRS, CONN. (November 30, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team fell to Atlantic Hockey opponent Holy Cross, 4-1, on Friday night in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
Four different Crusaders scored goals as Holy Cross out shot the Huskies 28-23 in the Atlantic Hockey victory. Holy Cross jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when senior Matt Werry scored his first goal of the season at 5:54 into the first period. The Crusaders added to their lead with a goal from freshman Everett Sheen at the 8:23 mark in the first period. Sheen's eventual game winner, was on a power play goal, his fifth of the year.
In the second period UConn made it a 2-1 game as Sean Erickson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) knocked a loose puck into the back of the net, past Holy Cross goaltender Adam Roy. The goal marked Erickson's second of the season and eighth in his career. At the 14:50 mark in the third period Holy Cross freshman Joe Buck gave the Crusaders a 3-1 lead when he connected for his fourth goal of the season. Chris Trovato scored his first goal of the season with an empty net goal with 29 seconds remaining in the game, to clinch the victory.
Roy made 22 saves in goal for the Crusaders as Holy Cross improves to 5-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in Atlantic Hockey play.
UConn's Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) finished the night with 24 saves in 58:26 played as his record falls to 4-8 overall this season.
The Huskies, now 4-8-0 overall and 3-6-0 in Atlantic Hockey play, will complete their home-and-home series with Holy Cross as they travel to Worchester, Mass. on Saturday, Dec. 1 for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
