WAKEFIELD, Mass. (February 5, 2007) — University of Connecticut men’s hockey freshman goaltender Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) has been named Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week as announced by the league office Monday.
Erickson posted a 2-0-0 record over the weekend in helping guide the Huskies to a pair of wins over in-state rival Sacred Heart. He opened play Friday evening by stopping 31 shots in UConn’s 2-1 win at Sacred Heart.
He followed that performance by limiting the Pioneers to just one goal for the second straight night in the Huskies 4-1 victory. Erickson totaled 35 saves and held the Sacred Heart offense scoreless for the final 47:03 minutes of the game. He became the first UConn goaltender to post back-to-back games in which he allowed one goal or less since Brad Smith accomplished the feat Dec. 3, 8, 2005.
The award marks the second time this season that Erickson has been awarded with a weekly award. Earlier this season, Erickson was named Rookie of the Week Jan. 2 following his play in the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic.
