HAVERHILL, Mass. (March 12, 2007) — University of Connecticut men’s hockey senior defenseman B.J. Crum (Hampden, Mass.) has been named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday.
Crum turned in a two-goal performance Saturday evening in helping lead the Huskies to a 5-4 win over Mercyhurst in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament quarterfinals. With the win, the Huskies have now advanced into the Atlantic Hockey Tournament semifinals for the second consecutive season.
During Saturday night’s contest, Crum gave the Huskies a lead they would not relinquish by scoring his first goal of the night at the 10:20 mark of the first period. After Mercyhurst mounted a rally to cut the UConn lead in half, Crum responded by scoring the game-winning goal in the first five minutes of the third period for his fourth goal of the season.
Crum and the Huskies return to the ice Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. when No. 3 seed UConn takes on second-seeded Army in the semifinals of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. Should the Huskies defeat the Black Knights, it would mark UConn’s first trip to the tournament finals.
