Baseball Tops Sacred Heart 8-4

YAPHANK, N.Y. (March 14, 2007) – Senior catcher Larry Day (Amesbury, Mass.) went three for five with a two-run home run to lead the University of Connecticut baseball team to a 8-4 victory over Sacred Heart on Wednesday. The game was originally scheduled for Bridgeport, but moved to Yaphank, N.Y. because of playable field conditions. UConn improves to 4-9 on the season, while Sacred Heart moves to 4-8.
Day led three UConn players who had three hits each as senior Dennis Donovan (Center Moriches, N.Y.) was three for five with a run scored and senior Matt Untiet (Berlin, Conn.) was three for five with two RBI. Day had a total of four RBI on the day and also scored two runs.
Senior Brendan McGinn (Tolland, Conn.) picked up the win for UConn with five innings of work as he struck out four and walked one to even his record to 1-1.
UConn returns to action on Friday at 6 p.m. when it travels to Seton Hall for the first of a three game series as BIG EAST Conference competition begins.
