Softball Defeats Quinnipiac 3-1

HAMDEN, Conn. (March 29, 2007) - Fueled by two runs in the top of the third inning, the University of Connecticut softball team defeated Quinnipiac 3-1 on Thursday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.
The Huskies were the first to get on the board in the third as sophomore Micah Truax (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) ripped a double to right field allowing junior Allie Gendron (Amherst, Mass.) to score and sophomore Danielle Del Ponte (Tewksbury, Mass.) to advance to third. Del Ponte would then score the second run on a passed ball to put UConn up 2-0.
UConn struck again in the sixth. With Truax on third, freshman Lauren Cecchi (Simsbury, Conn.) singled down the left field line that drove home Truax.
Truax led the way with two hits and an RBI. Cecchi also recorded an RBI.
Freshman Tricia Sullivan (New Bedford, Mass.) earned the win in the pitcher's circle with four strikeouts and allowing no hits over four innings of work.
The Huskies return to BIG EAST action on Saturday with a doubleheader at St. John's at 12 p.m.
