Women's Tennis Blanks Providence 7-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 10, 2007) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team blanked Providence 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Providence, R.I.
The Huskies took the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Seniors Christine Burek (Wheaton, Ill.) and Liz Dibbs (Allentown, Pa.) teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 1 over Ashley Rissolo and Meghan Gilroy. Freshmen Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) and Alli Campitiello (New York, N.Y.) were 8-3 winners at No. 2 over Allison Cohen and Dara Hawkins-Hodgson. At No. 3, sophomore Breann Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Jess Porter (Duluth, Ga.) defeated Kerry Schulz and Jen Cusack 8-2.
In singles action, Burek defeated Rissolo at No. 1 6-2, 6-0 while LoRusso knocked off Gilroy 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. Porter was a 6-0, 6-4 winner over Schulz at No. 3.
Cheung made a clean sweep of Cohen at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0. Campitiello got a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 over Kate Lyons while at No. 6, senior Ashley Petruzzi (Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Cusack 6-2, 6-1.
UConn remains on the road with a match at Rutgers tomorrow afternoon beginning at 3 p.m.
