Softball Clinches Berth to BIG EAST Tournament

STORRS, Conn. (May 1, 2007) - After picking up two BIG EAST wins this past weekend, the University of Connecticut softball team has clinched a spot in the eight-team BIG EAST Softball Championship held May 10-12 at the Belleville Softball Complex in South Bend, Ind.
The trip marks the first for the Huskies since 2001. That year, UConn took home the Championship. UConn has now advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament 12 times.
The Huskies wrapped up the regular season with a 22-20 overall record at 10-9 in conference play.
Currently, UConn sits fifth in the BIG EAST standings. The Huskies will learn their seed after the rest of the conference teams finish play this weekend. The bracket will be announced Sunday, May 6.
