STORRS, CT (July 18, 2007) – The University of Connecticut men’s hockey team has announced the 2007-08 schedule which features 16 possible opponents including six non-Atlantic Hockey Association foes.
Throughout the 2007-08 season, UConn will host no-fewer than three games at home during the months of October, November, January and February.
The first game of the season will take place on October 14 when Canada’s Ryerson University comes to the UConn campus for an exhibition match.
The regular and conference seasons will officially begin five days later when American International College plays at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum on October 19. The Huskies will then travel to the University of Massachusetts (Oct. 20) before hosting their conference opponent Army to close the month on October 27.
November brings a full conference slate to head coach Bruce Marshall and the Huskies as seven of the nine games will play a factor in the AHA standings. Two games at Colgate on Nov. 23-24 will provide a short conference break for the Huskies prior to returning to conference play against Holy Cross and American International in late November/early December.
At the mid-season mark, the Huskies will play host to the 2007 Toyota UConn Hockey Classic at the Freitas Ice Forum on Dec. 29 and 30. The Hockey Classic will celebrate its 14th anniversary and will welcome Army, Brown and Ferris State to Storrs, Conn.
Brown and Ferris State will open the Classic prior to the Huskies re-match of last season’s AHA semifinal game against Army. The following day will be the championship and consolation games.
Ferris State will make its first appearance in the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic while Army will compete for the second consecutive season. Brown will return for the first time since winning the classic in 2004.
UConn has won the December tournament three times and is one of three teams to win multiple Toyota UConn Hockey Classic titles.
In the first week of 2008, the Huskies will visit Yale (Jan 2.) and Union (Jan. 4) before completing the rest of the season with conference play.
The Atlantic Hockey Association quarterfinal round will be held March 6-7 and the Final 5 will be in Rochester, N.Y. with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
