UConn Announces 2007-08 Womens Basketball Schedule

In all, the Huskies will play a total of 14 games against teams that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Tournament, including meetings with three programs (North Carolina, LSU and Rutgers) that advanced to the 2007 Final Four.
Connecticut’s non-conference schedule includes games against opponents from the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-10 and Southeastern conferences.
The Huskies’ 18-game home schedule (including exhibitions) will feature nine games each (including one exhibition) at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion and the Hartford Civic Center.
The five-time national champions and defending BIG EAST regular season champs will open their exhibition season at Gampel Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 2 with a showdown against the USA Senior National Team which is expected to include former UConn standouts Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Swin Cash.
The Huskies will close out the preseason slate with a contest versus 2007 NCAA Division II National Champion Southern Connecticut State, on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Hartford Civic Center.
Connecticut will begin the regular-season portion of the slate with back-to-back home games against Stony Brook (Nov. 11) and Holy Cross (Nov. 14) before heading to the U.S. Virgin Islands on Nov. 22-25 for the 2007 Paradise Jam, where the Huskies will face Stanford and Old Dominion in addition to a potential showdown with Duke, Purdue or Temple.
The Huskies will play 16 regular-season home games in 2007-08, highlighted by a home contest against North Carolina (Jan. 21).
UConn will also play host to key non-conference opponents BYU (Nov. 29), Virginia (Dec. 5) and South Carolina (Dec. 17).
Connecticut will take to the road for a trio of non-conference showdowns at San Diego State (Dec. 21), Purdue (Jan. 6) and LSU (Feb. 25).
Other home non-conference contests include games against in-state foe Hartford (Dec. 29) and Army (Dec. 31).
Connecticut will open BIG EAST play on Thursday, Jan. 3, when it faces Villanova on the road. The Huskies will open the home portion of the BIG EAST slate on Wednesday, Jan. 9, when they welcome West Virginia to Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies will face Rutgers twice for the third consecutive season in 2007-08 (Feb. 5/away & March 3/home), while UConn will also host BIG EAST contests against West Virginia, Cincinnati, South Florida, Providence, Georgetown, Marquette and St. John’s.
Connecticut will travel to face BIG EAST members Villanova, Louisville, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh and DePaul.
The national television schedule as well as the local Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) broadcast schedule will be announced in the near future.
UConn captured the BIG EAST regular season title in 2006-07 with a perfect 16-0 mark in league play and boasts a 316-83 (.792) all-time record in BIG EAST Conference games.
The Huskies will return five starters and 12 letterwinners from last season’s squad which finished 32-4 and advanced to the Elite Eight.
Connecticut has captured either the BIG EAST regular season or tournament title in each of the past 14 seasons.
The BIG EAST Conference has indicated that it is not yet prepared to release the Men's Basketball schedule at this time.
