Golf Tied for Ninth Place at The McLaughlin

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (September 21, 2007)-- Senior Brian Travalja (Oradell, N.J.) shot rounds of 70 and 71 Friday to stand in a tie for 12th place overall and help the University of Connecticut to a tie for ninth place in the team standings at The McLaughlin, hosted by St. John's at the 6,685-yard, Red Course at Bethpage State Park.
The Huskies shot a team total of 286-294--580 over the 36-hole competition Friday. The 18-team tournament concludes Saturday with 18 holes. St. John's and the University of West Florida are tied for the team lead with a total of 556 after two rounds. Kyle Scott of West Florida shot an eight-under par total of 132 (67-65) and holds a four shot lead in the individual competition.
Travalja led the way for the Huskies with his one-over par total. Junior L.J. Tosches (Grafton, Mass.) is tied for 24th after shooting 70-73--143. Freshman Chris DeLucia (Norwich, Conn.) and junior Tim Strout (Nashua, N.H.) each finished at 148 to round out the top four for the Huskies in the team competition, tying for 53rd after day one. Senior A.J. Siekierski (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) is competing as an individual and shot a 68 in the afternoon round to finish at 143. Freshman Mike Gunderson (Duxbury, Mass.) is the fifth member eligible to count toward UConn's team total and shot 76-77--153 to place in a tie for 82nd place.
The tournament concludes Saturday with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
