Huskies Drop Season Opener 2-1 At Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Despite getting out to an early 1-0 lead, the University of Connecticut men's hockey team relinquished two unanswered goals in the second period falling to Ferris State 2-1 in their season opener, Friday.
With the loss, the Huskies begin the season 0-1, while Ferris State improves to 2-1 on the season.
Sophomore Daniel Naurato (Livonia, Mich.) recorded his first goal of the year right before the end of the first period to give the Huskies a one-goal lead entering the first intermission. Naurato had some assistance from freshmen Sean Ambrosie (Moorhead, Minn.) and Jim Gallagher (Marquette, Mich.) who notched the first assists of their college career.
Early into the second period, Ferris State put their first goal of the game on the board when Derek Graham knocked in his first goal of the year to tie the game up at one-all.
At the end of the second period, Ferris State took the lead on a power play goal at 18:29. Travis Ouellette slapped in his second goal of the year to give the Bulldogs a one-goal lead and ultimately the victory.
Ferris State outshot the Huskies 38-27 on the night.
Two UConn goalies split the time between the pipes as junior Brad McInnis (Anchorage, Alaska) played the first 26:17 of the game managing 12 saves and allowing one goal. Freshman Jeff Larson (Ballwin, Mo.) came into the game in the second period and played out the remaining 32:30 making 24 saves, but giving up the gamewinner to earn his first collegiate loss of his career.
The Huskies are back in action Saturday with the final game of the weekend series against Ferris State. The puck will drop at 5 p.m.
