Huskies' Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss in Regular Season Finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite a 3-1 loss to Louisville, capping off the regular season, the University of Connecticut volleyball team captured its fourth-consecutive berth in the BIG EAST Tournament. Senior Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) tallied a team-high 13 kills with a.205 hitting-percentage while two other players finished the afternoon in double-digits. Junior Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) each pitched in 11.
The Huskies fell 25-13 in the first set and lost the second by a five-point (25-20) margin. UConn denied the Cardinals a sweep with a 25-19 victory in the third before falling 25-16 in the fourth set.
Freshman Lola Arslanbekova recorded a match-high 25 kills with a .429 hitting-percentage. Lindsey Mango aided the Louisville defense with 22 digs in the match while the team was led in blocking by Lecia Brown with nine.
Sophomore Samantha Arriaran (Norco, Calif.) added a service ace to her 35 assists while Murray recorded one ace as well. Senior Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) returned to double-figure form with 21 digs. Freshman Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) narrowly missed out with nine digs. Arriaran and Quayle each finished the afternoon with seven digs.
The Huskies (14-16, 7-7) take on No. 2 Cincinnati in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 7 seed. Louisville (17-10, 10-4) hosts this season's Tournament at the Kentucky International Convention Center. UConn and the Bearcats are the second match of Friday afternoon. It is set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
Game Notes
- Rebecca Murray dished a career-high three assists in the game.
- The last time Connecticut concluded the season with a 7-7 BIG EAST record was in 2005, the first year under the direction of head coach Holly Strauss-O'Brien.
- Mattison Quayle has recorded double-figures in three of the last four matches played.
