Head Coach Geno Auriemma
On Kelly Faris
"I told you guys she doesn't play big games. You didn't believe me. I don't know if she's going to play great games every night, but Kelly did today what she does in practice every day. She gets involved in a lot of stuff and makes a lot of stuff happen, does a little bit of everything and when the game's over, you look up and she 'Oh. She played pretty well.' That's her game."
On being pleased about her assertiveness
"Yeah. Yeah, she's taken a little bit to heart, you know, when I said 'I don't think you should pass up shots.' So she's being much more aggressive and I think she's a really good offensive player 'cause she's such a good passer. She can be effective every time she touches it, not just when she shoots it. She can make plays for herself and for other people."
On team's overall performance
"I thought, for the most part, these guy, you know, once you get past the….initial - It's always hard on the first night because you're kind of - there's too many jitters, there's too much...Once you get past the hyperventilating and all that stuff, I think once it settles down, especially when you're playing a team that is going to run the whole shot clock out, so it's like you're not really expecting to deal with that the first night out. Every possession is a 30-second possession. So I thought for the first time out, you know, I thought we got shots that we wanted to get and that's what kind of what we're looking at. You know, where are the shots coming from, how were they going to be distributed all over the court. And I thought for the most part, we got exactly the same shots we got at practice."
Freshman Kelly Faris
How anxious were you and what are your thoughts on the game?
"I was obviously going to be anxious to get in my first college game. I had a lot of fun. It was a good experience. I didn't really know what to expect going into it, but I definitely enjoyed myself out of the court with all the girls out there."
How important was it for you to get things done tonight?
"Personally, I definitely think it's important for anyone. For me, I have to be able to go out and prove that I can play here and play with these girls that are such high caliber players. I think that's the mindset of everybody [that we] have to go out and get everything done; so that's what I picked up from our team, our girls and that rubs off on me."
Junior Maya Moore
What was your overall impression of the game?
"When we come out with a game plan we have to execute. I think some of the three's they got were uncontested three's we have to stop. Some of the offensive rebounds, we have to pick up on that. We definitely break down the film and of practice, including this game and as the games go on and continue to get better."
