STORRS, Conn. (February 20, 2009) - The Huskies enter their last home weekend series with Canisius coming off of a 6-2 rout of American International on Tuesday. UConn will take on the Griffs Friday and Saturday February 20 and 21 at 7:05 p.m.
The Huskies dominated American International only trailing for 2:36 in the first period after they allowed the Yellow Jackets to score two goals within 45 seconds. But rookie Corey Jendras' (Abingdon, Md.) goal with six seconds remaining in the first period knotted the game up and gave UConn some confidence heading into the second period. That confidence translated into four-straight goals and the victory.
UConn has met up with Canisius in a weekend series on November 15 and 16 in Buffalo, N.Y. The Griffs took both of the games from the Huskies, shutting out UConn 6-0 the first night and coming back to win 3-2 in overtime, UConn's first and only overtime loss of the season. (UConn is currently 1-1-1 in OT). In the history between the two teams, Canisius holds the advantage with a 19-14-4 record.
THE STREAK CONTINUES: Since returning to the line up against Air Force (Feb. 7), sophomore Brian Regan (Ballwin, Mo.) has been on a roll posting one assist in each of his last four games. Another Husky, sophomore Matt Pedemonti (Enfield, Conn.) has also been on a tear recording at least one point in each of his last five games including a two point effort against AIC.
OCHOA’s OFFENSE: Junior Chris Ochoa (Santa Monica, Calif.) has scored five goals in the last three games for the Huskies including four-straight against Mercyhurst. The three-game goal scoring streak ties his longest of the season which he first recorded from Nov. 16- Nov. 22 against Canisius and RIT. Ochoa has scored a goal against seven different opponents racking up the most points against Mercyhurst (5) and RIT (4).
