STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut softball team scored in three different innings on their way to a 5-3 victory over Dartmouth, Wednesday on the Burrill Family Field at the UConn Softball Complex. The Huskies knocked out 11 hits in the victory.
With the victory, the Huskies improved to 25-12 on the season while Dartmouth dropped to 18-15.
UConn took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Jess Arremony (Griswold, Conn.) sent a bloop single to left centerfield which scored junior Justyne Roy (North Dighton, Mass.). Roy led off the inning for the Huskies with a liner up the middle.
After Dartmouth scored a couple of runs in the top half of the inning, UConn bounced back to regain the lead in the bottom part of the inning. Sophomore Julianne Towers (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) started things off with a single up the middle. She moved up to second on a single to left by senior Micah Truax (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) and scored when freshman Amy DeLuca (Bordentown, N.J.) doubled down the leftfield line.
Both Truax and DeLuca came into score a few batters later. Truax crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by senior Jillian Ortega (Aberdeen, N.J.) while DeLuca scored on a single up the middle by Arremony to give UConn the lead once again.
Dartmouth got one back in the top of the sixth, but a hit by Towers to score Arremony gave UConn their two-run lead once again and the victory.
Freshman Jessie Stavola (Montauk, N.Y.) earned her fourth victory of the season and her first since March 26 striking out six batters on the way.
The Huskies are back in action this weekend on the road with doubleheaders against Louisville and Georgetown. UConn will take on the Cardinals on Friday and will continue on their trip to play the Hoyas Sunday afternoon.
