STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut field hockey players Ali Blankmeyer (Convent Station, N.J.) and Rayell Heistand (Hamburg, Pa.) helped lead the New Jersey High Performance Training Center Team to title at the 2009 U.S. Field Hockey National Championship this weekend in Boston.
In addition, Heistand was named to the U.S. Junior National Squad, along with UConn teammate Melissa Gonzalez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) after a solid weekend of play.
Gonzalez, who will enter the season as UConn's top returning scorer after posting 24 points last year, was also selected to the U.S. Senior National Team Developmental Squad. Meghan Wheeler (Canton, Mass.), a graduating senior from the UConn program, joined Gonzalez on the squad.
Gonzalez and Heistand are now eligible for selection to the Junior World Cup Team, which will be selected following the completion of the Junior National Camp on July 16-19, which will be held at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.
