WEST POINT, N.Y. - Five different Black Knights recorded a goal as the University of Connecticut men's hockey team fell 5-0 to Army on the road. Freshman Garrett Bartus made 21 saves on the night.
The Huskies drop to 3-17-3 on the season, 3-12-3 in AHA play as Army improves to 8-11-4 on the year and 7-7-3 in Atlantic Hockey action.
The power play was one of the deciding factors of the game as Army was 1-for-2 on the night while the Huskies failed to capitalize on their opportunities going 0-for-4 on the night. The first goal of the game, a powerplay goal, proved to be the gamewinner.
The Huskies started the game off aggressively taking seven shots in the opening minutes, but it was Army that got on the board first when Danny Colvin scored his first goal of the season on a power play opportunity at 15:19. The Huskies tried to battle back taking another couple of shots on goal but at the 18 minute mark the Black Knights added another goal to the board, this time Mike Hull got the puck into the back of the net, to end the first period with a 2-0 lead.
In the second, less than three minutes in, the Huskies let up Army's third goal of the night as Chris Spracklen edged the Black Knights' lead to three.
Halfway through the third period, Army added another goal to their total. This time it was Eric Sefchik who expanded the lead to four with just over nine minutes left in the game. With just over three minutes remaining, the Black Knights sealed the victory with a fifth goal at 16:57. Kyle Maggard notched his second goal of the season, this time unassisted.
The Huskies are back in action Saturday night when they finish out their weekend series with Army at 7:05 p.m. at the Tate Rink.
