WORCESTER, Mass. - Three-straight Holy Cross goals is what determined the outcome of the University of Connecticut men's hockey game, Tuesday. The Huskies recorded the first goal of the night but allowed three in a row in their 3-2 loss to the Crusaders.
With the loss, the Huskies drop to 4-23-3 on the year and 4-17-3 in Atlantic Hockey action. Holy Cross improves to 8-15-5 on the season and 7-11-4 in AHA play.
Chris Waterstradt (Tulsa, Okla.) got the Huskies on the board late in the first period on his second goal of the year. Waterstradt was aided by Andrew Olson (Alexandria, MInn.) who notched his sixth assist of the year at 16:17 in the first.
In the second, however, it was all about Holy Cross. The Crusaders put two goals on the board first when Jordan Cyr popped in a shorthanded goal at 15:31, followed by a goal by Andrew Cox at 17:21 to put Holy Cross up by one entering the final period of play.
Early into the third, Holy Cross added their third goal of the game at 3:43 when Jay Silvia got the puck into the back of the net with some help from J.P. Martignetti and Cyr.
Later into the period, the Huskies used a power play opportunity to cut the lead to one as Marcello Ranallo (Burnaby, B.C.) earned his second goal of the year with help from Sean Ambrosie (Moorhead, Minn.) and Brad Cooper (Boca Raton, Fla.), but it wasn't enough as the Huskies came up one-goal short.
UConn finished the game 1-of-10 on power play opportunities with six chances alone in the third period. Holy Cross could not capitalize on anything on the night going 0-for-5.
In just under 59 minutes of play, Garrett Bartus (St. Charles, Ill.) finished the night with 17 saves while his counterpart Thomas Tysowsky nabbed 24 shots on the night.
The Huskies will have the upcoming weekend off and will return to action in 10 days when they take on Bentley in a home-and-home series beginning Friday, February 19 at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum at 7:05 p.m.
