Women's Track and Field Wins Third Straight ECAC Title

BOSTON, Mass. - The UConn women's track and field team won its third straight ECAC Indoor Championship title on Sunday afternoon in Boston, Mass.
After leading day one with 29.5 team points, UConn came out in the second day of competition and picked up four first place finishes.
Led by Phylicia George, who earned her first ever ECAC Championship title, the Huskies' tallied 84.50 points for first place, while Seton Hall scored 65 for second. George Mason took third with 45 to round out the top three, respectively. George won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.26.
Trisha-Ann Hawthorne won the 200 meter dash for the Huskies with a winning time of 23.86, while Leah Andrianos also won her event with a 2:47.41 first-place finish in the 1,000 meter. Her 1,000 meter finish was also a school record.
Victoria Flowers rounded out the top-finishers for the Huskies on day two of the championship with a victory in the weight throw. Her mark of 20.07 meters (65-10.25) was also a provisional qualifying tally.
During the first day's competition, UConn had two victors as Tynisha McMillian won the shot put with a season-best mark of 15.83 (51-11.25) and Kristen Brown won the long jump title with a personal record mark of 5.98 meters (19-7.5).
Three-time All-American Carin Knight placed second in the high jump at 1.77 meters (5-9.75) as teammate Jasmine Cribb finished in a tie for seventh place at 1.65 meters (5-5.0).
"We had a great day overall," said head coach Bill Morgan. "After not competing at the ECAC Championships last year, we have now won the league title in three of the last four years."
Four members of the UConn squad will head to the NCAA Championship next weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Hawthorne, Flowers, Knight and George will all compete for UConn in competition that will begin on Friday, March 12.
