Huskies Drop Series Finale 4-2 At Nova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - In their final game of the weekend against Villanova, the University of Connecticut softball team fell 4-2 as the Wildcats swept the Huskies for the first time in the history of the program earning just their fifth, sixth and seventh victories over UConn.
The Huskies drop to 21-27 on the year and 7-12 in conference play while Villanova improves to 24-27 on the season and nearly evens out their conference record at 9-10 in the BIG EAST.
Villanova got all four of their runs on the board in the third inning as they nearly batted around. The top of the Wildcat order accounted for three of the runs on the day as Stephanie Zrebiec crossed the plate as the game winning run after coming in to pinch run for Valerie Ortega.
The Husky bats came to life in the fourth inning when UConn cut the Wildcats lead in half. After Justyne Roy (North Dighton, Mass.) reached on a fielders choice, she advanced to third on a single to right field by Amy Vaughan (Somerset, Mass.).
Kathleen Brenneman (Cheshire, Conn.) came in to pinch run for Vaughan and one batter later crossed the plate as Marissa Guches (Sammamish, Wash.) doubled to centerfield, clearing the bases and racking up her 17th and 18th RBIs of the season.
The Huskies couldn't get any closer as Roy was the only UConn batter to get another hit on the day. UConn went on to fall 4-2.
Starting pitcher Kiki Saveriano (Lexington, Mass.) finished the day pitching 4.2 innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs with just one strikeout. Ali Adelman (San Diego, Calif.) made her 21st relief appearance of the season, finishing the game out while pitching 1.1 innings allowing just one hit and striking out one batter.
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, May 8 when they take on Louisville in their final three games of the season. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and on Sunday, May 9, prior to the Noon start, the Huskies will hold a senior day celebration to honor their four seniors.
