Four Huskies Earn Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team Honors

STORRS, Conn. - Atlantic Hockey announced on Thursday that a record 140 student-athletes earned a spot on the league's All-Academic Team for the 2009-10 season, including the University of Connecticut's Sean Ambrosie, James Gallagher, Matthew Miller and Brendan Olinyk.
To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team, an individual must post a 3.0 GPA or higher in all the academic periods during which his team was actively competing and overall for the entire school year.
Olinyk was UConn's only multiple-year selection as he was named to the All-Academic team for the fourth consecutive year. As freshmen, Gallagher and Ambrosie earned their first league academic honor, while Miller did so as well as a junior.
Four Top Scholar Athlete honors were given our to American International's Dean Yakura, Canisius' Dave Cianfrini and Army's Ryan Leets and Kyle Maggard. The Atlantic Hockey Academic All-Star Team consists of six individuals with three student-athletes from AIC, two from Army and one from Canisius. AIC's Chris Markiewicz, Michael Penny and Yakura earned spots on the team, along with Army's Leets and Maggard. Cianfrini rounded out the six-man team.
