Hartley and Moore Lead Huskies Over Louisville 78-55

HARTFORD, Conn. - Bria Hartley and Maya Moore combined for 50 points to lift the No. 2 UConn women's basketball team over Louisville 78-55 on Saturday afternoon at the XL Center in Hartford in front of a sold out crowd of 16,294.
For the third straight contest, Moore tallied 20 or more points, finishing the afternoon with a team-best 26. She shot 10-of-22 from the floor and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Hartley added a career-high 24 points in her 14th game in double figures as she registered 20 or more points for the second time this season.
The victory improves UConn's overall record to 16-1 on the year, while the Huskies move to a perfect 6-0 in BIG EAST Conference play. Louisville drops to 12-7 overall and 3-2 in league action.
UConn began today's contest shooting 3-of-7 from the floor and turned the ball over four times in the opening 4:53 as the league battle remained close after five minutes of play with the Huskies leading by one. After a television timeout, the Huskies broke open the game as they put together a 10-3 run to extend their lead to eight at 20-12 at the 12-minute mark of the half.
Moore and Hartley combined for 23 points in the first half as Moore had 14 points in 15 minutes before sitting the final five minutes of the frame with three fouls. The two Huskies registered 21 of UConn's 30 field goal attempts in the first 20 minutes. UConn went into the break with a 31-26 advantage after hitting just one field goal in the final five minutes of the half.
Hartley netted seven of UConn's first 11 points in the second frame as the freshman and Moore continued where they left off in the first half, combining for 27 points in the second half. Dolson, Moore and Hartley were the only Huskies to score in the frame before Faris registered a three-point play at the 5:51 mark in the second half to give UConn a 61-44 lead.
UConn's largest lead of the day came with 36 seconds left in the contest as Lorin Dixon hit a three pointer to make the score 78-53. The Huskies finished the day shooting 53.6%, a 30-of-56 clip from the floor.
Louisville shot just 31.7% in today's contest, marking the Huskies' 245th consecutive game in which they have not allowed an opponent to shoot over .500.
Dolson finished the day with 12 points as she shot 4-of-5 from the floor with four rebounds. Kelly Faris added 12 rebounds to mark her fifth career game with double-digit rebounds.
Today's win also marks the Huskies' 71st consecutive victory at home, while it is the 56th straight win over a BIG EAST opponent. In the month of January, UConn is now 220-83 all-time and have won its last 37 games played during the calendar's first month.
The Huskies hit the road again to square-off against North Carolina on Monday, Jan. 17 in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill, N.C. The non-conference match-up will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
