Ellington, Conn. - Senior Jeb Buchanan finished in a tie for fourth place to help lead the University of Connecticut to a third place team finish Tuesday in the Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge CC.
Sacred Heart captured the team title by one stroke over Rhode Island and by four shots over Connecticut. Houston Baptist and Hartford filled out the top five teams.
Jeffrey Merrell of Houston Baptist captured individual medalist honors, beating Branden Chicorka of Rhode Island by one shot. Wally Gonzalez of Hartford finished third, with Buchanan and Joseph Serrantino of Sacred Heart tied for fourth, three shots off the lead.
Buchanan was joined by teammate Brian Hughes in the top ten individual finishers, coming in tied for tenth in the event.
The Huskies return to action on October 15-16 at the Classic at Shelter Harbor, hosted by Rhode Island.
