Bid on Coach Auriemma's Game-Worn Tie
HARTFORD, Conn. - Maya Moore scored 20 points and dished out five assists as the No. 1 UConn women's basketball team downed Seton Hall by a score of 80-59 in BIG EAST Conference play on Tuesday night at the XL Center.
Moore scored just seven first-half points on 2-of-10 shooting before coming out in the second half on the mark, netting her first three attempts from the floor. Moore finished the night with her 140th career game in double figures, while she tallied 13 points in the second frame on a 4-of-8 shooting effort.
With the BIG EAST win, UConn improves to 14-0 in league play and 27-1 overall. The loss gives Seton Hall its 19th on the year, dropping the Pirates to 8-19 overall. In league action, Seton Hall falls to 1-13 as the Pirates were defeated in their third straight contest.
After going into the locker room at the half, UConn held just an 11-point lead before the Huskies put together a 20-4 run in a span of 7:20 to extend its lead to 27 at 58-31. During that run, Moore and freshman Bria Hartley combined for 18 of the Huskies' 20 points.
Hartley finished the game with 17 points as she hit 3-of-8 from behind the arc.
Stefanie Dolson scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Tiffany Hayes netted 10 points for her 58th career game in double figures. Kelly Faris struggled from the floor, making just one of her five field goal attempts, but dominated the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds, including nine on the defensive end. Her 11 boards marked her fifth game with double-figure rebounds.
Seton Hall hit 11 three pointers on the night, the most allowed to an opponent by the Huskies this season. Jazzmine Johnson scored a career-high 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. Brittany Morris hit 4-of-8 from three-point land to lead the Pirates to an 11-of-22 clip from behind the arc.
The Huskies scored 20 points off 12 Seton Hall turnovers and outscored the Pirates 36-12 in the paint. UConn's largest lead of the night came at the 8:20 mark of the second half as the Huskies went up by 31 at 68-37.
The Huskies will take on Georgetown in their final regular-season road game on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 3:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C. before returning to Connecticut to host Syracuse at Gampel Pavilion on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
