CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A three-run home run by Alex Dickerson lifted the Indiana Hoosiers to a 3-1 victory over the University of Connecticut baseball team on Saturday afternoon in Corpus Christi, Texas.
With two on and one out, Dickerson connected on a pitch by junior Matt Barnes and sent it over the right field wall to give the Hoosiers a two-run lead after the Huskies took an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning.
In the top of the first, Mike Nemeth recorded his third RBI of the year with a single through the left side of the infield to score junior Nick Ahmed. Ahmed registered the Huskies' first hit of the ballgame with a single into left field.
Barnes threw seven innings, while striking out nine to improve his strike-out tally on the year to 20 in two games. He took the loss, for his second of the season, while he gave up three runs, six hits, a walk and a hit batter.
Dan Feehan took over on the hill for Barnes in the eighth and retired the side in his second appearance of the year.
For Indiana, Blake Monar picked up his first win of the season as he struck out six Huskies and allowed five hits and one run in 5.1 innings of work. Chad Martin registered the save, his first of the season as well, as he went 3.2 innings, allowing one hit, while striking out five.
Mike Friel led all Huskies with a 2-for-4 outing as the freshman added a stolen base in his first attempt of the season. Nemeth finished the contest with a 1-for-4 effort and an RBI, while Ahmed added one hit and one run scored.
The Huskies will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in their College Classic finale on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
